Our relationship with cannabinoids has evolved a lot in recent years, largely due to the fact that cannabis researchers keep discovering new cannabinoids that change the way in which we experience the properties of the hemp plant.

Tetrahydrocannabiphorol (THC-P) is the latest hemp derivative to make a splash on the scene, and its potential effects are already getting a lot of hype from the community.

Since THC-P is a cannabinoid with its own distinctive effects, it’s worth exploring, even if you have already dabbled in all of the other noted cannabinoids like Delta-8 THC, Delta-10 THC, THC-O-acetate (THC-O), and even hexahydrocannabinol (HHC).

An Insight Look in THC-P and Its History

An Insight Look in THC-P and Its History

Tetrahydrocannabiphorol is one of over 150 cannabinoids naturally found in the flowering buds of the hemp plant, and again, since it’s a cannabinoid, it possesses the unique ability to bind to cannabinoid receptors belonging to the endocannabinoid system that are tasked with utilizing these compounds to regulate processes of the body.

One of the most interesting things about THC-P is that it was discovered by accident.

While many other compounds in the hemp plant have been analyzed by researchers for decades, THC-P only became a discovery in December of 2019.

Basically, we only have a single study on its characteristics and effects.

Tetrahydrocannabiphorol was discovered when a group of Italian cannabis researchers applied mass-spectrometry and liquid chromatography to a sample of the hemp plant to separate each of its compounds.

THC-P emerged alongside other cannabinoids that we’ve known about for decades, like cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

It is important to point out that THC-P is not like Delta-10 or THC-O, which are synthesized in some way.

THC-P is a naturally occurring compound that has always existed in the plant material.

Is THC-P Psychoactive?

Is THC-P Psychoactive?

As you may have guessed from its name, tetrahydrocannabiphorol is a psychoactive cannabinoid, meaning that it will get you high.

But, how high?

Well, one of the things that the researchers discovered is that THC-P is 30x more capable of binding to CB1 receptors in the brain, which are the same receptors that determine the psychoactive response of which cannabinoids are capable.

This means that in all likelihood, the high produced by THC-P is notably stronger than that of Delta-9 THC, the dominant cannabinoid in cannabis that is responsible for its intoxicating properties.

We know from the study mentioned that came out that THC-P works on both CB1 and CB2 receptors, much like Delta-9 THC and cannabidiol.

This is interesting because it tells us what we can expect from the cannabinoid in terms of its properties.

CB1 receptors are found in the nervous system, and control responses like mood, sleep, and pain sensitivity.

CB2 receptors are located in the digestive and immune systems, being responsible for digestive processes, inflammation, etc.

THC-P theoretically offers effects that are associated with all of these processes throughout the body.

When it comes to the specifics of this cannabinoids properties, we await more research that can give us insight into exactly what the compound can do.

There will hopefully be clinical trials in the near future, in which THC-P is tested against all kinds of ailments, in the ways that we’ve seen with CBD, delta-8 and others.

In the meantime, we do know from the one study that has been performed that THC-P has some distinctive effects that are stunningly similar to those of delta-9.

Primarily, THC-P seems to potentially have a role in managing pain levels, mood, appetite, and nausea.

And, due to its uniquely powerful binding action with cannabinoid receptors, these effects may be stronger than what many of us are used to.

Where Can I Find THC-P?

Where Can I Find THC-P?

At the time of this article, tetrahydrocannabiphorol is very new; it’s just not widely available yet.

It takes quite a while for a new cannabinoid to reach commercial level, as companies must spend time carefully determining the best way to extract the compound and concentrate it, as well as how to formulate it into different product types to best demonstrate its properties to the human body.

That being said, THC-P is a cannabinoid that is slowly making its way onto the marketplace.

A few companies have turned it into various formulas, and little by little, its popularity will increase, making it easier to find.

What Kinds of THC-P Products are Out There?

Tetrahydrocannabiphorol can be converted into an isolate extract.

For those who don’t know, an isolate extract can be used to make all kinds of products that we are already familiar with from taking CBD, Delta-8, and the like.

Here is a list then of THC-P products that we expect to see grow in popularity over the next couple of years.

For the time-being, it is likely that vapes will be the only form that is accessible through various manufacturers, but that could change as companies put effort into making new THC-P products.

THC-P Vape Cartridges

THC-P Vape Cartridges

Easiest to find right now, which isn’t surprising as customers prefer their cannabinoids in vape cartridge form.

These carts are pre-filled with a blend of THC-P extract and terpenes and come in lots of different strains. Often times being blended with cannabinoids like CBD, delta-8, delta-10 and some with THC-O.

They are made to be used with 510-threaded vape pen devices that are rechargeable.

THC-P Disposable Vapes

THC-P Disposables

All-in-one vape pens that are ready to be used right out of the box.

They come filled with vape oil and have a battery that never needs to be charged.

Also come in lots of different strains. Just like cartridges, THC-P disposables are easier to find then say some of the following products.

And just like with THC-P cartridges, due to the elevated effects of THC-P when compared to delta-9, responsible companies will not sell a 90%+ purity THC-P product like with delta-8 or CBD. Instead it will be small amounts that are enhanced with other cannabinoids.

THC-P Tinctures

THC-P infused tinctures could eventually hit the market, offering a way to absorb the cannabinoid sublingually.

They will likely come in a variety of milligram strength options, a blend of varying cannabinoids, and possibly flavors as that's a big drawing factor with tinctures.

THC-P Edibles

Destined to be a hit, as all cannabinoids are quite popular in edible forms – especially gummies.

They will offer the longest-lasting effects and a body high that many enjoy.

Great alternative to edibles as they provide basically the same effects but are consumed in capsule form.

Refers to CBD flower infused with THC-P extract, which will come in lots of strain options, and can be purchased in the form of loose buds or pre-rolls.

Probably going to be extremely popular, as people love dabbing psychoactive cannabinoids.

These highly potent concentrates are used with a dabbing device to vaporize the compounds of the hemp plant.

Still, they are recommended for experienced dabbing users.

If these concentrated forms of THC-P ever hit the market, proceed with caution due to the potency effects (up to 30x that of delta-9). Which is why you will more than likely not find pure THC-P, and more likely to find that blended with a full spectrum of cannabinoids.

Because at the end of the day, we are all about RESPONSIBLE consumption, and based off preliminary research indicating THC-P can be 30x more potent than delta-9, this could provide effects that are far greater than what you are looking for.

Is THC-P Legal?

Is THC-P Legal?

Right now, tetrahydrocannabiphorol is federally legal, as are all hemp-derived cannabinoids other than Delta-9 THC, as long as the final product does not contain more that 0.3% delta-9 THC by volume.

It remains to be seen whether or not some states will ban the cannabinoid as it becomes more popular, as some have done with Delta-8 THC.

THC-P: A New Cannabinoid Destined to be a Success

Overall, tetrahydrocannabiphorol is a fascinating compound that we didn’t even know existed just a couple of years ago.

THC-P’s effects look very promising, and we’re certain that it will become just as popular as other mainstream cannabinoids that have been entering the marketplace in recent years.

Keep an eye out for THC-P at Wellicy, as our company is working hard to offer top-quality, lab-tested THC-P products that allow you to experience this awesome cannabinoid from a brand you can trust.
