More people are discovering that CBD flower is the perfect product for their unique hemp-related needs and goals.
CBD flower is dramatically different from other hemp-based products available on the market in that it’s simply the pure, unadulterated form of hemp that has not been turned into a CBD oil extract.
This allows you to experience hemp in a way that’s much closer to the way in which nature intended.
But, like most things relating to hemp, CBD flower comes in a variety of forms.
Plus, it can be used in a number of ways.
As you would imagine, each delivery method has its own unique effects, and one of those effects relates to its potency.
Let’s break down each use for CBD flower, and its unique potency level in order to create a CBD flower routine based on your needs.
First, however, we need to take a closer look at CBD flower and what makes it so unique from other hemp products.

What is CBD Flower?
CBD flower is simply the raw flower buds from the hemp plant.
The hemp plant’s flower buds naturally contain all of those compounds that we want from cannabis, including CBD and a variety of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, nutrients and so on.
CBD flower, being hemp in its rawest, purest form, has not been adulterated in any way.
Other hemp products are made with a hemp extract, which means that the hemp plant material has been put through an extraction process.
Cannabis purists believe that even this process can disrupt the natural effectiveness and usefulness of the compounds sought out in hemp.
Being raw, CBD flower must be heated to be effective.
Other hemp products have already gone through a decarboxylation process that gently heats and activates the compounds.
This makes them active and bioavailable. Therefore, whichever way you choose to consume your CBD flower, it’s important that you do so in a way that properly heats the flower first so that the compounds can activate in your body.
How Can CBD Flower Be Utilized?
Before we get into the potency level of each delivery method, let’s break down what those delivery methods are.
Delivery Method #1: Vaping CBD Flower
This requires that you have the proper vaping device for this specific type of product.
Most CBD vaping devices are not compatible with raw CBD flower, and can end up burning the flower and damaging the device.
Luckily, many vaporizers for CBD flower are available such as the Pax.
Vaping CBD flower is a lot like smoking it, except the device produces vapor rather than smoke, which is more discreet and can be easier on your throat.
Delivery Method #2: Smoking CBD Flower
Smoking CBD flower is the most traditional way to consume hemp and has been done for hundreds if not thousands of years.
All that is required is CBD hemp flower such as the Urb Stormy Daniels CBD Flower 1/8 pack, plus the proper smoking apparatus, whether that be rolling papers, blunt wraps or your favorite pipe. Or you could go the easy route and pickup the Urb CBD & CBG pre rolls!
When comparing smoking CBD to vaping CBD, the main difference is when smoking CBD flower you are leveraging combustion to ignite and activate the hemp flower which produces smoke.
Whereas vaping CBD flower produces vapor.
Delivery Method #3: Cooking with CBD Flower
Cooking with CBD flower is becoming more popular.
It requires that you heat the raw flower (decarboxylate) before you infuse into some type of fat, because this activates the cannabinoids and other compounds.
Then once you decarboxylate your hemp flower, you can infuse your preferred fat choice with the compounds, and you can choose to discard the remaining plant material if you so wish.
CBD flower is most often used in baked goods, but it can be used in savory dishes as well.
It really doesn’t matter what type of food it is, as long as it’s something that can be heated to the proper temperature to activate the compounds without burning them.
Delivery Methods, Potency, and Absorption – Oh My!
Every delivery method has its own method of absorption into the body, which is why different delivery methods can affect you in different ways.
Each will have its own onset time, depending on how quickly that particular area of the body absorbs compounds.
It will also have its own length of activation, depending on how quickly that area of the body allows for the metabolization of the compounds.
Finally, potency levels will differ based on how efficient the compounds are at absorbing completely into your body.
How Each Method of Using CBD Flower Varies in Potency
Now, this is where it gets a bit more unique.
Vaping CBD Flower: Allows for a very high-potency experience. This is because of how efficient the lungs are at absorbing the compounds in the hemp plant. Vaping CBD flower also allows for a fast onset time, meaning the effects come on very quickly compared to some other methods like edibles.
Smoking CBD Flower: Being able to smoke flower rather than vaping it actually allows for a more potent experience. That’s because smoke is naturally more potent than vapor. Smoke is a highly concentrated substance, while vapor has a large percentage of water that dissipates rather than getting absorbed.
- Cooking with CBD Flower: Produces the least potent option, but it will last longer. Also, when you eat a CBD edible made with CBD flower, the effects can take up to two hours to take place, because of how long it takes for CBD to travel through the digestive system and reach the bloodstream.
